Turning a Former Factory Into a High-Performance R&D Center

Year: 2025 | Location: Atlanta, GA | Partners: DaVinci Development Collaborative, LS3P

The Atlanta Public Safety Training Center represents a significant investment in the future of public safety, bringing essential training facilities together on one campus to better prepare Atlanta's police officers and firefighters. Designed to support education, leadership development, and hands-on training, the new campus required thoughtfully planned environments that balanced functionality, security, and long-term value.

Through strategic cost management, careful coordination, and adaptable project execution, the Atlanta Police Foundation and its project partners transformed an ambitious vision into a functional training environment built to serve the city's first responders for years to come.

The Atlanta Police Foundation set out to create a comprehensive training campus that would strengthen the city's ability to educate, prepare, and support its public safety professionals. More than a collection of buildings, the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center was envisioned as an integrated environment where police officers and firefighters could develop the skills, knowledge, and leadership capabilities needed to serve their communities.

Bringing that vision to life required balancing several priorities: maintaining the architectural design, managing project costs, addressing strict security requirements, and coordinating installation within an evolving construction schedule. With spaces ranging from academic and leadership buildings to fire stations, equestrian facilities, and specialized training areas, each environment presented distinct functional needs.

Working alongside LS3P, DaVinci Development Collaborative, and the Atlanta Police Foundation, Corporate Environments helped translate the campus’ design vision into practical, cost-conscious solutions. Rather than approaching the project with a one-size-fits-all strategy, the team evaluated a range of furniture options at different price points, ultimately developing a blended approach that preserved the overall design intent while identifying opportunities for savings. Utilizing State of Georgia contract pricing further supported responsible budget management and purchasing efficiency.

The campus required a diverse mix of environments to support both daily operations and specialized training. Private offices and workstations provide dedicated areas for administrative responsibilities, while classrooms, conference rooms, and collaborative spaces accommodate instruction, planning, and team development. Additional applications extended into the fire station, horse stables, and firing range, ensuring that even highly specialized facilities received solutions appropriate to their intended use.

Executing a project of this scale also required flexibility and careful logistical planning. Construction delays, winter weather, and heightened site security created challenges for scheduling deliveries and coordinating installation. With multiple manufacturers shipping directly to the campus, the project team worked closely with its installation partners to manage delivery windows, adjust schedules, and respond to changing site conditions. This coordinated approach helped maintain progress while respecting the security protocols and operational requirements of the site.

The completed Atlanta Public Safety Training Center brings together a wide range of educational, administrative, and specialized training environments within a unified campus. By balancing design expectations with financial responsibility and navigating complex installation requirements, the project team helped deliver spaces equipped to support the diverse responsibilities of Atlanta's public safety personnel.

The result extends beyond the physical environment. The campus provides a foundation for continued professional development, operational readiness, and collaboration among the individuals responsible for protecting and serving Atlanta. What began as an ambitious vision has become a lasting investment in the people and capabilities that support the city's future.
