PIEDMONT HENRY HOSPITAL

Piedmont Henry Hospital New Tower: Creating a Timeless Healthcare Environment Through Strategic Collaboration

Year: 2026 | Location: Stockbridge | Partners: HKS

The first few moments inside a healthcare facility can shape a visitor's entire experience. Piedmont Eastside Hospital recognized that its main lobby no longer reflected the quality of care, comfort, and hospitality patients and families experience throughout the hospital. Through a thoughtful renovation, the hospital transformed its front door into a welcoming environment that supports patients, visitors, and staff while reinforcing its commitment to exceptional care.

As Piedmont Henry Hospital expanded with its new patient tower, it faced an important challenge: create a welcoming, high-quality healthcare environment that reflected its commitment to exceptional patient care while balancing quality, performance, and cost. The goal was to create spaces that would remain functional, durable, and relevant for years to come, supporting both today's needs and tomorrow's growth.

The project required thoughtful planning to deliver a welcoming, high-quality environment while maximizing long-term value across the new tower.

With a project spanning more than two years, Piedmont Henry Hospital needed to maximize every dollar while ensuring each space fulfilled its intended purpose. Decisions surrounding space utilization, furniture allocation, and budget optimization required careful coordination throughout the project.

One of the biggest challenges was choosing the right combination of manufacturers and solutions to make the most of the budget without compromising quality, functionality, or design. The goal was to create a healthcare environment that would continue to perform and feel relevant long after the project was complete.

Corporate Environments partnered with Piedmont Henry Hospital and HKS from the earliest planning stages, helping the team make informed decisions that aligned operational goals, user experience, and financial objectives.

To help the hospital make informed decisions, Corporate Environments organized two furniture showcases, giving hospital staff and community members the opportunity to test furniture options and provide valuable input before final selections were made. This collaborative process ensured every decision was informed by the people who would use the spaces every day, creating a shared sense of ownership in the outcome.

The team also challenged traditional programming by identifying alternative uses for underutilized areas—including dedicated respite spaces for caregivers. These additions not only enhanced the employee experience but also created opportunities to consolidate purchasing and secure more advantageous pricing across multiple manufacturers.

The success of the project was built on strong collaboration between Piedmont Henry Hospital, HKS, and the Corporate Environments project team. Working together, the team continuously evaluated space planning, budget strategy, user feedback, and design intent to ensure every decision supported the hospital's broader goals. Through proactive communication and strategic coordination, the team successfully balanced operational requirements with long-term value.

Completed in 2026, the New Tower provides Piedmont Henry Hospital with a lasting environment that supports patients, families, staff, and the surrounding community.

Beyond delivering a beautiful, finished space, the project achieved meaningful business outcomes:

  • Maximized purchasing power through strategic manufacturer coordination and thoughtful product selection.

  • Increased engagement by incorporating direct feedback from staff and community members into design decisions.

  • Improved space utilization by identifying new opportunities for caregiver respite and multifunctional environments.

  • Balanced design quality, functionality, and budget to maximize long-term value.

  • Created a durable, future-ready healthcare environment designed to serve the hospital’s long-term needs.

Thoughtfully integrated artwork throughout the tower further reinforces a welcoming, healing atmosphere, complementing the overall patient and caregiver experience.
