GREYSTONE POWER

GreyStone Power: Strengthening Culture, Collaboration, and Retention

When GreyStone Power made the strategic decision to relocate from its aging headquarters to a new 194-acre campus outside Atlanta, the goal was about far more than a change of address. The organization saw an opportunity to strengthen employee engagement, support collaboration, and create a workplace that would help attract future talent while retaining the dedicated workforce that had fueled its success for decades.

Working alongside design partner Smallwood and workplace solutions partner Corporate Environments, GreyStone transformed its vision into a modern headquarters designed to support connection, collaboration, and culture at every level.

GreyStone Power had built a strong culture rooted in relationships and employee connection. However, its previous 30-year-old headquarters no longer reflected the way its teams worked or interacted. Employees had limited opportunities to gather outside of formal meetings. One large conference room served as the primary location for celebrations, retirement parties, baby showers, and company gatherings, leaving little flexibility for everyday collaboration or spontaneous interaction.

As GreyStone planned its move, leadership faced several key challenges:

  • Create a workplace that would help attract and retain top talent in a competitive labor market.

  • Preserve the organization's established culture while embracing a more forward-thinking work environment.

  • Support multiple styles of work, from focused individual tasks to team collaboration and social engagement.

  • Provide employees with meaningful opportunities to connect across departments and strengthen workplace relationships.

The company needed a workplace that balanced innovation with familiarity—one that felt modern without losing the character employees valued. To help bring this vision to life, GreyStone partnered with Corporate Environments and Smallwood. Together, the team focused on understanding how employees worked, collaborated, and connected throughout the day. Rather than designing around individual spaces, the project centered on creating an environment that would support organizational goals, reinforce company culture, and improve the overall employee experience.

Corporate Environments worked closely with the project team to ensure every workplace setting aligned with GreyStone's objectives for engagement, collaboration, flexibility, and long-term growth. Together, the team created a cohesive environment designed around people rather than departments.

The new headquarters gives employees a variety of spaces to connect, collaborate, and recharge throughout the workday. One of the most impactful outcomes was the creation of a highly flexible café environment that quickly became a central hub for the organization. Rather than functioning as a single-purpose breakroom, the space supports multiple forms of interaction simultaneously, from focused individual work to informal meetings and large group conversations. Employees now have access to diverse settings that accommodate different work preferences, encourage spontaneous collaboration, and foster stronger interpersonal relationships across teams.

The workplace also provides dedicated destinations for both planned and unplanned interactions, helping employees engage more naturally throughout the day while maintaining access to private spaces when focus and concentration are required. By thoughtfully balancing open collaboration areas with more private environments, GreyStone created a workplace that supports productivity without sacrificing connection. The new headquarters delivers meaningful business outcomes that extend well beyond the physical environment. Employees now have multiple opportunities throughout the day to connect, collaborate, and build relationships, reinforcing the culture that has long been a hallmark of GreyStone Power.

The modern campus reflects GreyStone's commitment to investing in its people, helping the organization remain competitive in attracting new talent while demonstrating value to long-term employees. Purposefully designed gathering spaces encourage interaction across departments, creating more opportunities for knowledge sharing, problem-solving, and innovation.

A variety of work settings empowers employees to choose environments that best support their tasks, work styles, and collaboration needs throughout the day. Most importantly, the new headquarters aligns the physical workplace with GreyStone's culture, creating an environment where employees feel connected, supported, and proud to work.

GreyStone Power's new headquarters demonstrates how thoughtful workplace strategy can strengthen culture, improve the employee experience, and support long-term organizational goals. By partnering with Smallwood and Corporate Environments, GreyStone transformed a workplace limitation into an opportunity, creating a destination that not only supports how employees work today but positions the organization for continued growth and success in the years ahead.
