GRAPHIC PACKAGING INTERNATIONAL
WHEN PARTNERSHIP MEETS SUSTAINABILITY
Graphic Packaging, the industry leader in renewable and recycled material consumer packaging, sought to renovate its 223,000 sq. ft. headquarters into an eco-friendly workspace. The project, led by our CE team in partnership with HOK Atlanta, Cushman & Wakefield, and HITT Contracting, involved a full-scale renovation across nine floors. This project included the installation of 755 workstations, 133 private and executive offices, and various open-concept floors featuring collaborative spaces, focus areas, a barista bar, a café, and a state-of-the-art fitness center. Live greenery infused the office with an eco-conscious aesthetic, creating a refreshing and sustainable environment.
“Challenges are inevitable, but
clear conversations and a unified team approach helped us push through and find solutions. It's not just about delivering a space; it's about building a long-lasting partnership with the client.”
Through a great partnership with MillerKnoll, we overcame budget challenges early on, where initial pricing didn’t meet the client’s needs. By transitioning ancillary furniture from open lines to products within the MillerKnoll portfolio, we delivered a price that fit within the budget without compromising quality or scope. This strategic decision not only preserved the design intent, with the help of HOK and Cushman Wakefield, but also leveraged the customer's spending, stretching their dollar and maximizing their investment in their workspace. The client prioritized clean wire management and optimal space utilization, and through our clear communication and early collaboration with the client during the design process, we addressed every requirement.
As a team, we faced numerous hurdles, but open communication and a developed trust were key to overcoming them. As Naureen, the CE designer, reflected: "Challenges are inevitable, but clear conversations and a unified team approach helped us push through and find solutions. It's not just about delivering a space; it's about building a long-lasting partnership with the client." This philosophy has solidified a growing relationship with Graphic Packaging, and our wonderful partners on this project. We also took to heart the importance of sustainability to the client, opting to provide a custom-built website that contained all the documentation and instructions on adjusting their seating, height-adjustable workstations, and warranty info. This digital solution avoided the printing of thousands of pieces of paper to equip their employees with the tools to make the most of their workspace.
The first site visit after installation was particularly memorable, as it marked the sum of months of hard work and dedication. "It felt like a dream realized," Naureen recalls. "It was the perfect representation of what can be achieved when a team works together towards a shared vision."
Just as Graphic Packaging is committed to keeping the future in mind with innovative packaging solutions that simplify and enhance the consumer experience, we aimed to provide them with a workspace that embodies the same forward-thinking approach. Our goal was to create a headquarters where their team could explore, collaborate, and brainstorm endless possibilities. By designing open-concept floors and flexible collaborative spaces, we gave them a dynamic environment that not only supports their current operations but also fosters creativity and innovation for years to come.
