Coxe Curry Atlanta Office Transformation: Modernizing the Workplace Through Purposeful Repurposing

Year: 2024 | Location: Atlanta | Partners: HLGstudio, CA South

When Coxe Curry & Associates set out to refresh their Atlanta office, they faced a challenge familiar to many organizations: creating a modern, flexible workplace without abandoning valuable existing assets or exceeding budget constraints. By embracing innovative space planning, strategic furniture repurposing, and a new flexible work model, Coxe Curry transformed its office into a brighter, more collaborative environment that supports how their team works today.

The result was a workplace that maximized natural light, increased space utilization, preserved capital through asset reuse, and created inviting areas for collaboration, all while maintaining the firm's commitment to responsible spending and operational efficiency.

For more than three decades, Coxe Curry & Associates has helped nonprofit organizations build stronger strategies, deepen community connections, and achieve lasting impact. As workplace expectations evolved, the firm recognized an opportunity to align its office environment with the collaborative and flexible way its team worked.

Their vision was clear: create a fresh, modern workplace that encouraged connection, supported flexible workstyles, and made better use of their existing real estate investment. At the same time, they wanted to responsibly manage costs by repurposing as much of their existing furniture inventory as possible. Achieving this vision required overcoming several competing priorities. Coxe Curry wanted a contemporary workplace aesthetic while preserving existing assets to maximize budget efficiency. They were also transitioning to a free-address workplace model, which required a thoughtful redesign to support flexibility without sacrificing functionality.

The team faced additional challenges in:

  • Increasing access to natural light throughout the office

  • Creating collaborative gathering spaces within existing budget parameters

  • Integrating legacy furnishings into a cohesive, modern environment

  • Navigating late-stage audiovisual decisions that impacted project coordination and implementation

  • Success would require creative problem-solving, careful planning, and strong collaboration among all project stakeholders.

Corporate Environments partnered with Coxe Curry to help turn these challenges into opportunities. Rather than focusing solely on products, CE worked closely with the client to understand how their people worked, collaborated, and utilized the space. Through collaborative workshops, live design sessions, and ongoing consultation, the team helped Coxe Curry evaluate multiple workplace strategies and visualize new possibilities for their office.

CE guided the client through decisions that balanced aesthetics, functionality, and financial stewardship, ensuring every investment contributed to long-term workplace performance. Working alongside project partners HLG and Colliers, Corporate Environments helped create a seamless project experience from concept through implementation. The partnership enabled the team to quickly solve challenges, coordinate evolving project requirements, and maintain momentum despite changing conditions throughout the project lifecycle. This collaborative approach ensured design, construction, technology, and workplace strategy remained aligned with Coxe Curry's goals.

The project team developed a strategy centered on three key objectives:

Maximize Existing Investments: Existing Cherryman and Knoll storage solutions were thoughtfully repurposed and integrated into the new design, reducing replacement costs and extending the value of previous investments.

Increase Workplace Flexibility: A free-address workplace model was introduced to support employee choice, improve space utilization, and create a more adaptable environment for evolving work patterns.

Enhance Collaboration and Employee Experience: By implementing lower-profile workstations and opening sightlines throughout the office, the team increased daylight penetration and created a brighter, more connected workplace. Budget savings generated through repurposing were redirected toward collaborative gathering spaces that encourage interaction and teamwork.

The completed workplace reflects Coxe Curry's commitment to innovation, stewardship, and employee experience. Natural light now flows throughout the office, leveraging expansive floor-to-ceiling atrium views and creating a more welcoming work environment. Flexible workspaces support a variety of work styles while allowing employees greater choice in how and where they work.

Most importantly, the organization achieved its modernization goals without unnecessary replacement costs, demonstrating how strategic repurposing can deliver both financial and workplace performance benefits.

Key outcomes included:

  • Reduced capital expenditures through purposeful reuse of existing assets

  • Improved workplace flexibility with the implementation of a free-address strategy

  • Enhanced employee experience through increased access to natural light

  • Expanded collaboration opportunities through thoughtfully designed gathering spaces

  • Improved space utilization and long-term workplace adaptability

  • Successful delivery despite evolving project requirements and late-stage coordination challenges

Coxe Curry's office transformation demonstrates that modernization doesn't have to come at the expense of fiscal responsibility. Through strategic planning, creative problem-solving, and strong collaboration, the organization successfully reimagined its workplace while maximizing existing investments. The result is a bright, flexible, and collaborative environment that supports the firm's mission, empowers its people, and positions the organization for continued success, proving that thoughtful workplace transformation is measured not by what is replaced, but by the value it creates.
